A new, innovative fitness class has returned to the playground to put the fun back into exercising. Devised by Cannons Health Clubs, Playground Pump is an original and action-packed session that uses space hoppers to encourage people to bounce their way to a happier, healthier life!
Family Fun!
There are two Playground Pump classes, one for adults only and another for parents and their children. For adults it’s a great session that allows them to return to the playground and feel like a kid again. For children the class is designed to feel like a game with mum and dad, designed so that parents and their kids can enjoy an entertaining workout together. The 45-minute sessions are being launched by Cannons in February 2008 and combine games and easy to follow exercises for challenging yet entertaining workout. The sessions will be run to ‘funked up’ playground music and, to extend the school theme, participants can enjoy tuck-shop treats on completion of each class.The class includes a short warm-up followed by interactive team games played on space hoppers, including tag and relay races.

Lu Mays, Personal Trainer & Exercise Co-ordinator at Cannons helped devise the Playground Pump program: “We came up with the idea for a playground-inspired workout after we discovered some members were worried that they didn’t have enough time and energy to keep up with their kids.” “Playground Pump is a fantastic solution because it gives parents an opportunity to increase their level of fitness and have fun with their children at the same time. The best thing about Playground Pump is that it’s fun. It’s a gentle way to introduce exercise into family life” Mum of one, Annie Lonie-Lewis brought her daughter Stella along to the pilot Playground Pump workout: “We both had such fun and I will definitely be signing up to the class when it comes to my local Cannons. Keeping active is really important to me as a mother of a four year old and I want to make sure she develops healthy habits from a young age. Playground Pump is a great way for us to achieve these aims together.”
